Savvy Wool Member Recipe Feature: After New Year Treat: Magic 7 Layer Bars

Holiday baking might be over, but there’s always room for more sweets in our opinion.

7 Layer Bars! This recipe came tried and tested from a Savvy Wool Member’s Mom and you all know we can’t go wrong with Momma’s baking.

Here’s what you need:

  •  1 3/4 Cups of Graham Crackers (crushed)
  • 1 stick of melted butter
  • 1 14oz Sweetened Condensed Milk (Eagle Brand)
  • 1/2 Cup Butterscotch Chips
  • 1 1/2 Cup Chocolate Chips
  • 1 1/3 Cup Flaked Coconut
  • 3/4 Cup Chopped Nuts (walnuts)

Instructions:

Heat oven to 350degreesF. Spray 13x9in baking dish with no-stick baking spray (or line with foil – we’ve heard that helps the removal process #staysavvy).

Crush Graham Crackers in a bowl… #staysavvy tip: a french rolling-pin gets the best crush.

Add melted butter and stir until all pieces look coated.

Press the crumb mix into bottom of a 13x9in pan.

#staysavvy tip: this recipe calls for a metal pan if you have it. It will cook fast in a glass pan, but the bars seems to keep form more consistently in a metal pan. If you prefer a “gooey bar”, then glass is definitely the way to go.

Cover crumb mix with sweetened condensed milk…try to get it as even as possible.

Spread Chocolate Chips evenly across the bars. Press down with spoon or fork.

Spread walnuts (if you want them) evenly across the bars. I definitely don’t over-do the walnut amount – a little goes a long way for me in these bars.  Press down with spoon or fork.

Cover the top with Coconut!

Bake for 25-30 minutes or until coconut is light brown.

Let these cool completely (30min-1hr) before cutting into them. Try a plastic knife to avoid a messy cut. s
